Anchoring is the same as when, for example, a smell, a song, or a taste, evokes an emotional or mental response that typically originates from your childhood. You've attached an emotion to a specific time, frequently unconsciously. All of your adult experiences and reactions are based on your childhood. It basically serves as the foundation for all of our behavior patterns, triggers, and perceptions of our reality. We have more control over our emotions and triggers than we realize, and our minds are more powerful than we realize.

So how can it benefit us?

When you're trying to form habits, it's a good way to stay consistent because let's face it: It is nearly impossible to achieve success with only willpower. No matter who you are or what you do, it doesn't matter. You will eventually run out of fuel in your tank of motivation, and you will require a small boost to keep going. You can use an anchor to form habits and change your mindset because it provides you with something to return to over and over again. Anchoring is also a great way to change your mood, especially if you're going through something bad. Do you know what it feels like to be anxious? You feel powerless to stop the world from collapsing like you're in the middle of the ocean during a stormy night. In this particular scenario, anchoring literally serves as a mental anchor to maintain emotional stability and control.

How can you anchor yourself?

  1. Your breath. It is the final link between your body and air. It is always present and there. You can connect to the existence of your body and mind in the here and now by simply observing your breath without forcing it to do anything special.

2. Values. Knowing your personal values helps you connect to your true self and what matters most in life. It is an act of anchoring to one's life essence and a way to experience life as more whole, complete, and meaningful to regularly remember and honor values.

3. Your secret to happiness: What is your go-to method for achieving personal happiness? What keys do you have in your portfolio that you can use whenever you want or need to boost your level of happiness?

4. Your mantra. Do you have a mantra, a saying, or a prayer that you love? When you're feeling lost, this can help you get back to who you are. Put it in a prominent place in your daily life where you can see it to yourself: Put it on your fridge, write it on a mirror, make it your desktop background, or wherever you can see it and remember what it means throughout the day.

5. Create your very own being anchor. You probably already have Being Anchors without even realizing it. Do you put small things around you that mean something to you? a bracelet, a necklace, or a ring? a shell or a stone you found on a beach or on a hike? a picture of a loved one that you always keep in your wallet or purse? a tune that, whenever you hear it, will always connect you to your Being?
